The Agency has received a number of requests for the type certification of vertical take-off and landing
(VTOL) aircraft, which differ from conventional rotorcraft or fixed-wing aircraft. In the absence of
certification specifications for the type certification of this type of product, a complete set of dedicated
technical specifications in the form of a special condition for VTOL aircraft has been developed. This
special condition addresses the unique characteristics of these products and prescribes airworthiness
standards for the issuance of the type certificate, and changes to this type certificate, for a personcarrying VTOL aircraft in the small category, with lift/thrust units used to generate powered lift and
control.
This notice provides guidance on the removal of geographic
limitations for all Flight Standards Service (FS) Designated Pilot Examiners (DPE). This notice
identifies additional procedures for FS offices managing DPEs
This notice revises Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy
on charging and collecting user fees under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR)
part 187 appendix A. This includes services for which to charge and not charge based on
location, billable events, fee billing, tracking, and processing of related payments.
This AC provides an updated
schedule of charges for services of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight
Standards Service (FS) aviation safety inspectors (ASI) outside the United States. On
April 19, 1995, the FAA amended Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR)
part 187 (60 Federal Register (FR) 19628-01, April 19, 1995), Fees for Certification
Services and Approvals Performed Outside the United States, which established the
methodology for determining these charges. In this rule, the FAA stated it would publish
these fees in an AC. Refer to part 187 appendix A(l).
