Last week, Garmin introduced the G5000 PRIME, its most advanced integrated flight deck designed for Part 25 transport aircraft. The all-touchscreen system features edge‑to‑edge, sunlight-readable primary displays, with quadruple the memory, up to 100× faster gigabit connectivity, and multi-core processors that more than double its processing power. Secondary display units are roughly 40% larger and both support a crisp, multi-touch experience, including 10-point touch and hand stabilization, aimed at improving cockpit usability. Built on an open-architecture platform, the deck includes advanced automation tools, like Modified Flight Plan, Window Manager, Emergency Return, Emergency Descent Mode, and Garmin Autothrottles, to reduce pilot workload and enhance safety. It also offers comprehensive terminal safety features (Runway Occupancy Awareness, 3D SafeTaxi, SurfaceWatch) and robust connectivity through GDL 60, Connext, FAA Data Comm, CPDLC, ACARS, and PBN support. Garmin emphasizes its fleet-wide reliability, drawing on over 30,000 installed flight decks, and says aircraft equipped with G5000 PRIME will be announced by airframers soon. ... See MoreSee Less
