FAA AIR600-21-AIR-600-PM04 Guidance on the Implementation of the Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act, Section 116(b), Flight Crew Alerting

This memorandum addresses FAA compliance with Section 116(b) of the Aircraft
Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act, Pub. L. 116-260 (the Act). This
memorandum provides the framework and guidance for the FAA’s implementation of
Section 116(b) to Aircraft Certification Service staff involved in the certification of
transport category airplanes and transport rotorcraft.
This policy does not address compliance of specific aircraft models to Section 116(b).
Because every flightdeck design is different, assessments regarding compliance of
existing flightcrew alerting systems with Section 116(b) must be made on a case-by-case
basis as necessary during the design certification process for an amended type certificate.
