Helicopter maker Sikorsky has launched a five-year partnership with CAL FIRE to advance aviation technology for wildfire response by exploring an autonomous version of the S-70i FIREHAWK, already a core part of CAL FIRE’s fleet. The partnership will build on recent demonstrations with Sikorsky’s Black Hawk that showed how crewed and uncrewed aircraft can suppress early-stage wildfires.This initiative continues Sikorsky’s decades of support for California firefighting and aligns with Lockheed Martin’s broader “21st Century Firefighting” strategy, which combines advanced aircraft and AI-driven intelligence to improve real-time wildfire management and protect communities. ... The first production Cessna Citation Ascend has been rolled out by Textron Aviation in Wichita, Kansas. The Ascend is part of the Citation 560XL series, which has delivered over 1,000 jets during the past 25 years, and combines performance, comfort, operational efficiency, and mission flexibility. It features Pratt & Whitney PW545D engines for fuel efficiency and thrust, Garmin G5000 avionics including autothrottle, a flat floor for spaciousness, a Honeywell RE100 XL auxiliary power unit approved for unattended operations, and amenities like multiple USB ports and universal outlets.
