Join us in congratulating Sikorsky on a remarkable anniversary today! On 4 February 1982, Sikorsky test pilot Nicholas D. Lappos set a Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) world speed record in a Sikorsky S-76A helicopter at Palm Beach, Florida. Flying the aircraft registered as N5445J, Lappos reached 335.50 kilometers per hour over a 3-kilometer course and 342.61 kilometers per hour over a 15/25-kilometer course. That same day, test pilot William F. Kramer flew the heavier-class version and averaged 340.48 kilometers per hour on both courses. These achievements were the beginning of a remarkable series of speed, altitude, and climb records established between 4 and 9 February 1982.Of the twelve world records established during this campaign, nine remained unbroken more than four decades later. The legacy of the S-76’s performance week in February 1982 solidified the type's reputation for engineering excellence and helped establish the S-76 series as a leading platform in commercial, medical, and offshore aviation roles worldwide. ... Cirrus has unveiled the G3 Vision Jet, the latest update to its popular single-engine personal jet, with a focus on refinement rather than raw performance. The biggest changes are inside, including a redesigned cabin with seating for six adults and one child, upgraded materials, and more flexible seating and cargo options. In the cockpit, the new Perspective Touch+ avionics add features like ATC datalink, improved taxi guidance, and easier database updates. Signature Cirrus safety systems such as CAPS and Safe Return Autoland remain standard, keeping the G3 aimed squarely at owner pilots who want a modern, approachable jet.Read more at cirrusaircraft.com/story/cirrus-unveils-new-g3-vision-jet/ ...
