Aviation Week reports that Archer Aviation has begun piloted flight testing of its Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, marking a major step toward commercial air-taxi operations. The new phase follows hundreds of earlier test flights conducted autonomously or remotely and is intended to validate the aircraft’s performance with a human pilot onboard. The piloted tests are expected to progress toward transition flights (switching between vertical and forward flight) and support upcoming commercial demonstration flights planned for later in the year. It features the widest and tallest cabin of any purpose-built business jet, along with advanced flight controls derived from Dassault Aviation’s fighter aircraft technology. The rollout moves the aircraft from assembly and ground testing into the next stage of development, which will include further ground tests followed by a flight-test campaign later in 2026. The aircraft’s entry into service is currently targeted for around 2027, depending on certification progress. ... See MoreSee Less
