GAMA Membership Criteria

Interested in becoming a member of GAMA? Subject to approval by GAMA’s Board of Directors, companies that meet the following criteria are eligible for membership.

The applicant must have demonstrated a high standard of corporate ethics and a sustained commitment to improving aviation safety. Applicants must be a company or business unit directly responsible for and primarily engaged in the production or manufacture of general aviation products* and have annual gross worldwide general aviation sales* (not shipments) exceeding the value of US$ 2.5 million (or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must meet the requirements of paragraph A or B or C below.

  1. If the applicant manufactures general aviation* airplanes, rotorcraft, engines or propellers, it must hold a Type Certificate (TC) issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), National Civil Aviation Agency – Brazil (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil – ANAC), Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), or an equivalent civil aviation authority.

  2. If the applicant manufactures a component that, in normal operation, is intended for installation on a type-certificated general aviation product, the applicant must hold the appropriate design approval issued by EASA, ANAC, TCCA, FAA or equivalent civil aviation authority or be a supplier directly to a general aviation* manufacturer that holds a Type Certificate.

  3. If the applicant provides services or articles that, in normal operation, are not permanently installed on a general aviation product, then the service or article must meet the requirements of paragraph 1 or 2 or 3 below:

    1. The article is required to be onboard an aircraft during normal flight operations (IFR or VFR) by EASA, ANAC, EASA, FAA or an equivalent civil aviation authority, or;

    2. The service is primarily intended to provide maintenance, maintenance programs, or OEM-originated maintenance data to operators, repair facilities or maintenance technicians, provided the company demonstrates it has a continuing business relationship to supply such services for the airworthiness of general aviation products, or;

    3. The article is intended to simulate an aircraft manufactured by a GAMA-member company to the extent that EASA, ANAC, TCCA, FAA or equivalent civil aviation authority, allows visual landings and take-off maneuvers performed in the simulator to be credited toward pilot experience as if the pilot had done them in an aircraft.

GAMA Associate Membership Criteria

Subject to approval by the GAMA Board of Directors, companies that are not eligible for regular membership in GAMA but meet the following criteria may be extended an Associate membership.

Applicants must be a company or business unit engaged in advancing the general welfare, safety, interests and activities of general aviation through the development, manufacture or advocacy of aircraft, technologies, systems, policies and standards primarily intended for general aviation.  The applicant must have demonstrated a high standard of corporate ethics, including respect for intellectual property rights, and a commitment to improving aviation safety.  Associate members do not hold an interest in any property of the Corporation.  There are two categories of GAMA Associate membership based on the level of participation in the Association’s policy & advocacy activities:

Associate Membership Full:  Innovation companies primarily engaged in the development of a new general aviation product and operations interested in participating on GAMA policy committees and the GAMA Board of Directors may make application for GAMA membership in this category.  Associate Membership Full companies must be supporting development of a product that is within approximately 3-years of application for the design/operational approval with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), National Civil Aviation Agency – Brazil (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil – ANAC), Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or applicable.  The company must be engaged in GA activities and shall actively contribute to the relevant GAMA policy committees.  As required by GAMA’s By-Laws, every Member of the Board of Directors shall be a senior officer of the member company or division represented and must be elected as a Director by majority vote of the GAMA Board or Executive Committee.

Associate Membership EPIC: Hybrid/electric propulsion & innovation companies interested in participating on the GAMA Electric Propulsion & Innovation Committee (EPIC) in the activities and development of industry positions and recommendations on related policy and regulatory matters can make application in this category.  Associate Membership EPIC do not have an individual seat or vote on the Board of Directors.  However, Associate Membership EPIC as a group may nominate one individual representative to serve as a Director on the Board for a period of up to 2 years.  As required by GAMA’s By-Laws, every Member of the Board of Directors shall be a senior officer of the member company or division represented and must be elected as a Director by majority vote of the Board or Executive Committee.
