Our friends at GE Aerospace published a lighthearted holiday article in which “Santa’s helpers” at the company used AI and supercomputing to design a fantastical multi-mode jet-engine system to “power Santa’s sleigh” and help him make his Christmas Eve deliveries on time. The fictional sleigh blends real aerospace technologies, such as the powerful GE9X commercial engines, hybrid electric/Open Fan concepts from the RISE program, and a hypothetical hypersonic dual-mode ramjet, into a playful narrative about boosting Santa’s speed and efficiency, even tossing in “magic dust science” and 24/7 AI-enabled support to keep the sleigh running.
