Vertical magazine reports that MD Helicopters, LLC. has unveiled the MD 564, a new six-bladed version of its iconic MD 500-series helicopter that the company says revives the “hot rod” reputation of the light, high-performance platform. The aircraft introduces a six-blade fully articulated main rotor system designed to improve lift, payload capability, and performance, especially in hot-and-high conditions, while also reducing vibration and noise compared with earlier versions. Built on the proven MD 500 family airframe, the MD 564 is aimed at operators that value the type’s agility and durability for missions such as utility work, law enforcement, and military roles, and it reflects MD Helicopters’ effort to modernize the long-running design while keeping its compact, highly maneuverable character. Flying Magazine recently reported on a proof-of-concept program in Hyde County, North Carolina, where volunteer paramedics will test an ultralight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft made by Pivotal Aero to improve emergency response times. Instead of transporting patients, the aircraft will allow trained first responders to quickly reach accident scenes, assess conditions, and support ambulances, fire services, law enforcement, and search-and-rescue teams. Because the aircraft qualifies as a Part 103 ultralight, it requires only limited training rather than a full pilot license and can take off and land vertically on many surfaces, enabling rapid deployment even in remote areas. The project aims to determine whether small electric aircraft can serve as a fast, flexible tool for emergency medical services, helping responders bypass traffic or difficult terrain and potentially improving outcomes for critical emergencies.Read more at www.flyingmag.com/electric-aircraft-emergency-medical-services/ ...
