FAA Part 5 Workshop – 06.25.2024.
FAA, in partnership with the AIA/GAMA/SAE S&M SMS Focus Group, held a workshop to provide further information on the newly released Part 5 rule. The agenda, participation list, and presentation materials from the Workshop are available below. In addition, FAA is making available a sample Part 5 implementation plan template and implementation Data Collection Tools (DCTs) which were referenced in the presentation slides. FAA Part 5 SMS Implementation Informational Webinar Program
Purpose: The FAA is hosting weekly webinars in July to cover the implementation of Part 5 SMS. The primary goal of these webinars is to provide a detailed briefing on the 14 CFR Part 5 Rule and information about its requirements and implementation timeline. The webinars will include discussion on expectations and allow opportunity for Q&A.
Who Should Attend: Companies required to develop and implement Safety Management Systems (SMS) in accordance with CFR 14 Part 5 SMS final rule, published April 2024. In addition, FAA AIR employees interacting with one or more of the organizations described above (i.e., Principal Inspectors, Assigned Engineers, Managers, etc.) are being invited to attend to hear the same information about Part 5 requirements and expectations.

The D&M SMS Focus Group is intended to provide a forum to share Aviation Authority and Industry best practices and experience for implementing SMS within a Design and Manufacturing organization.

This Standard is intended to enable the aviation industry to implement a Safety Management System (SMS) consistent with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Annex 19; it can be used to support demonstration of compliance with applicable SMS requirements from Aviation Authorities or for voluntary SMS implementation.
